TOP 10

My List of Top 10 Summer Camp Flicks
( In no particular order)

01

Sleepaway Camp - 1983

This is a cult classic that if you love horror movies and haven't seen it, DO IT!! A young traumatized Angela Baker arrives at a summer camp with her foul mouthed and amazing cousin. Soon murder happens and it becomes a who done it of epic proportions. That's all I'm gonna say it. And don't google it. Just watch it. You'll thank me later.

02

Camp Nowhere - 1994

What do you do when your parents want to send you to computer camp? Call up your friends and create your own camp!!! I was obsessed with this movie as a kid and not much has changed. the cast is fantastic, Jonathan Jackson, Christopher Lloyd. ANDREW KEEGAN... need I say more. Its one of the best movies to come out of the 90s.

03

Space Camp - 1986

This movie is a gem. At one point in time almost all of us have imagined or dreamt of going to Space Camp and for those of us who never did this is the  movie we vicariously lived through. Every single person in this cast is top notch, they all also happened to go on to make some pretty epic stuff. Its about a group of kids who are working on a shuttle and its accidentally launched into space. They must come together and use what they learned to make it back to Earth. For you Joaquin Phoenix fans this happens to be his film debut.

04

Friday the 13th - 1980

I really hope I don't have to go into too much detail about this movie because you should have seen it already. Camp counselors working to get the campgrounds ready before opening day start getting bumped off one by one. Kevin Bacon's young self walking around shirtless and all sexy, chicks in their undies and no bras. ( it is the end of the 70s folks) and the beginning of one of the best horror franchises ever.

05

Heavyweights - 1995

I have never met a person who didnt enjoy this movie. If I do...... I don't want to think about it ok. Chubby kids go to a fat camp for a summer of fun and weight loss and are met by a psycho former fitness instructor played by Ben Stiller. I know he can be an aquired taste, but even if he's usually your cup of tea, he's perfect in this role. All the kids are great and most recognizable from other films from the 90s. Its heart warming, fun and a perfect summer film. Whole family greatness.

06

Little Darlings - 1980

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Its a perfect mix of end of the flower power 70s and into the 80s. Good girl Ferris played by Tatum O'Neal makes a deal with bad girl Angel played by Kristy McNichol on who can lose their virginity first. Ferris goes for camp counselor Gary played by Armand Assante and Angel goes for bad boy hottie Matt Dillon. The girls in the camp are hilarious and in on this game and shenanigans ensue. This is a classic coming of age story that reminds me of a good Judy Blume novel.

07

Parent Trap - 1961

Hayley Mills + Hayley Mills = amazing!

Two twins, who don't know their twins, find out their twins, then switch lives to get their parents back together. Sound like a Disney film? Good cause it is. And a good one at that. Filled with catchy toons and pranks you'll want to do on your friends or siblings this golden classic should be seen and enjoyed by all.  Maureen O'Hara and Brian Keith ( you will have a crush on one other the other by the end of this movie) are the parents and if this movie doesn't have you singing 'Lets Get Together Yeah, Yeah, Yeah' then I can't help you.

08

The Burning - 1981

This is a horror gem that is well known in the horror lover community. A disfigured camp caretaker seeks out revenge on the teens who did him wrong. Simple premise and excellent and I mean excellent death scenes. Among the list of fun actors in this movie, Jason Alexander, Holly Hunter, Fisher Stevens (you know the guy from Short Circuit) Its gruesome and not quite Friday the 13th, but thats not a bad thing. Add this to the list of must sees especially if you call yourself a horror fan.

09

White Water Summer - 1987

This movie.....THIS MOVIE!! Kevin Bacon as a crazy wilderness counselor....Sean Astin as a smart kid who doesn't want to be in the woods..... and the amazing AMAZING soundtrack main song by Bruce Hornsby called Wid Frontier. I still sing that song when I'm in the car driving along the mountains roads. Hell I sing all the songs cause its a great soundtrack. We're talking rapids, boys acting a fool in the woods and did I mention the soundtrack. Just watch this movie for goodness sakes.

10

Madman - 1982

This is a horror gem that has been getting more attention lately and I personally couldn't be happier about it. Counselors are being slashed and all kinds of cut up after telling a tale about a serial killer who was supposed to hang, but freed himself and escaped into the very woods that they currently inhabit. Let the carnage begin. This is a great addition to the slasher genre especially some of the hiding place scenes. ( Not spoiling guys sorry) If you're wanting to sit back, relax and eat your popcorn in the dark when its raining or windy out. This is the movie for you. For horror geeks like me, this is a good flick to watch on a summer day when its too hot to go outside.
